The next day, the bride committed suicide at her husband’s home. Police recovered the bride’s body hanging from her neck Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place in the Paschimpara area of Tangail Sadar upazila. The body was sent to the Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Jannatul Rubaiyat Tanbir (21), a local university student, is known to be the daughter of Hashem Khanshur, former manager of Agrani Bank in the Jarashahibagh area of Basail Municipality, Tangail. Tanvir had a long love affair with Sadeq Ahmed Saim, son of the late Ghiyasuddin from the Paschimpara area of the same upazila. They were married as a family on Tuesday. When Sadeq Ahmed Sim went to the market on Wednesday, Tanvi committed suicide by tying a sari around her neck with the bedroom ceiling fan.
Tanvir’s brother-in-law, Shakil Khan, said that although Bhabhi’s (Tanvi) family had completed the marriage formalities in the presence of local dignitaries, they may not have been satisfied with the girl. In the morning he seemed very depressed. He is believed to have committed suicide in a fit of rage after arguing on a mobile phone with his parents in the morning.
Tanvir’s father, Hashem Khanshur, said that the death of his daughter just one night after the wedding was truly tragic and could not be accepted as normal. I think my daughter was persuaded to commit suicide. I will continue with the case after I receive the autopsy report.
Basail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (CO) Harunur Rashid said the body was recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. A case of unnatural death has been filed at the Basail Police Station.
