Sheikh Hasina said: “There is no question that antimicrobial resistance has become a global public health challenge for both humans and animals. inadequate food production is leading to disaster.

“The amount of effective antibiotics is decreasing and this could lead to a new crisis in the world, which could be worse than the current Covid-19 epidemic.”

“It could tarnish our success in medicine and healthcare through centuries of scientific research,” he said. The unnecessary use of antibiotics, the wrong dose and the weak immune system in general are responsible for this situation. “

Highlighting the steps taken by the government of Bangladesh in this regard, Sheikh Hasina said: “Inspired by the Global Plan of Action adopted by the World Health Organization in 2015, we have adopted a national plan on containing resistance to antimicrobials in Bangladesh from 2018 to 2022.

“This is an effective step by the government to ensure universal health care throughout the country.”

Calling for concerted efforts to stop the arbitrary use of antibiotics and raise public awareness, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “We must now take concerted action around the world to monitor the type of infection, as well as ensure the controlled use of antibiotics and raise public awareness to stop its arbitrary use. “

Calling for a joint international investment in research for the discovery of new antibiotics, the Prime Minister said: “At the same time, we must ensure that new antibiotics are available to everyone.”

He recalled that prevention is better than cure and asked world leaders to continue their campaign, technical and financial support so that this new initiative is a success.
