Life imprisonment for 4 people, including retired colonel in arms case

Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Court No. 4 delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

The other convicted are Farzana Anjum Khan, wife of Shahid Uddin, Syed Akidul Ali and Khorshed Alam Patwari.

After the verdict was announced, Akidul and Khorshed were sent to jail with sentencing warrants.

Chief Prosecutor Abdullah Abu told the Metropolitan Sessions Court of Judges that the judge took nine witnesses for the state in the case. The defendant did not testify.

According to the verdict, the anti-government and anti-state activities were carried out from a house in Baridhara below the cantonment police station in the name of Shahid Uddin Chowdhury’s wife. Police raided the home on January 17 of last year and recovered a pistol with five magazine rounds, an RKT pistol with six magazine rounds, a shotgun, two rounds of ammunition and two magazine rounds.

Counter-Terrorism Unit (Retd) inspector Biplob Kishore Shil presented a case to the cantonment station on the same day. After the investigation, the charge sheet was filed in court on April 4 of last year. On August 13 last year, the court brought charges against the defendants and ordered the trial to begin.
