A petition for review has been filed with the court challenging the validity of the murder case brought by Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, Sinha’s older sister, in connection with the shooting death of retired major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan by the police.

The request for review was submitted on behalf of the dismissed inspector general of the Liaquat police, the number one defendant in the case. Dhaka attorney Mezbah Salauddin and Cox’s Bazar attorney Farhad Shahriar filed a petition for review for Liaquat in the Cox’s Bazar District and Session Judges Court on Sunday (October 4) at noon.

The prosecutor of the Court of Sessions and District Court of Cox’s Bazar, Faridul Alam, confirmed the information.

Liaquat’s lawyer, Mezbah Salauddin, said that on August 5, Major Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a murder case in the Cox’s Bazar Magistrates Court. A review has been filed challenging the validity of the order in that case. Because the trial of Sinha’s sister’s case does not follow Section 205D of the Law. There are doubts about the establishment of justice.

Confirming the review, Cox’s Bazar Session and District Judge PP Faridul Alam said that court judge Mohammad Ismail had accepted the request and set the hearing for October 20.

In response to the review, Sharmin Ferdous, the plaintiff in the Sinha murder case, said the defendants were taking no action to save themselves. We take our case to court. The court has set the hearing date for the request for review. I will also highlight our words on that day. The court has jurisdiction to judge good and evil. We only want justice for the brutal murder of my brother.

On the night of July 31, the police shot and killed Major Sinha at the Baharchhara checkpoint in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case against nine people in the Cox’s Bazar Magistrates Court on August 5 for the incident. Inspector Baharchhara Investigation Center Liakat Ali was named Defendant No. 1 and Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das Police Station was named Defendant No. 2.

After the case, seven policemen, including OC Pradeep, surrendered to court on August 8. The other two defendants are fugitives. There are currently 14 people in jail, including the co-defendant in the case. The case is being investigated by the RAB.

They have detained 13 defendants in the case for various periods and interrogated them. So far, 12 defendants in the case have made confessional statements in court under article 164.

However, one of the accused, OC Pradeep, was held in preventive detention for a maximum of 15 days but did not give a confessional statement. Meanwhile, the court has granted agent Rubel Sharma a seven-day preventive detention. However, he has not yet been questioned in preventive detention.

Meanwhile, a high-level investigative committee formed by the Interior Ministry into Sinha’s murder presented its report on Monday (September 8). The ministry has yet to reveal what is in the report.
