The Foreign Ministry made the call in a letter to the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The letter said that Bangladesh was deeply concerned by the sudden change in onion exports announced by the Indian Ministry of Trade and Industry on September 14.
“It is directly affecting the supply of daily necessities in the Bangladesh market.”
Referring to the trade secretary-level talks between Bangladesh and India in January, the Foreign Ministry said that “Bangladesh requested India not to impose restrictions on the export of essential foods to Bangladesh and if restrictions are imposed, Bangladesh should be informed in advance “.
The letter further stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India last October also discussed the issue of such restrictions.
“The latest announcement by the Indian government on September 14 did not focus on the talks and mutual understanding between the two friendly countries in 2019 and 2020.”

The letter called for the speedy export of onions considering the friendly relations between the two countries.
Regarding the letter, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shahriar Alam, told reporters: “It was not written between our two countries that India would continue to export onions to Bangladesh and if there were any changes in this regard, India would first inform Bangladesh. “. There is such an understanding between the two friendly countries.
“We ask India to revoke this decision in a very short time and we hope to get good results very soon.”
