Higher education, such as HSC and equivalent exams, has been canceled to avoid the risk of contracting the deadly coronavirus. HSC results will be determined by evaluating the results of the JSC and SSC exams. A legal notice was sent to interested persons, including the Ministry of Education, on behalf of one of the examinees, demanding reconsideration of such a decision by the government.
In addition to the Ministry of Education, the notice was sent to the Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Upper Secondary Education, the General Director of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education and the President of 9 Boards of Education.
If the claim mentioned in the notice is not accepted within the next 3 days, an order will be filed in Superior Court.
Supreme Court attorney Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan sent the notice on behalf of an upper secondary examinee named Shatabdi Roy by registration mail on Thursday (October 8) morning. The lawyer himself confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Lawyer Shihab Uddin Khan, Shatabdi Roy’s lawyer, said in the notice that the student claimed that if he prepared upper secondary results based on the JSC and SSC results, he and many other students would be deprived of good results due to their previous GPA even though they were ready to do well.
Shatabdi Roy is a senior high school student from Mofazzal-Momena Chakladar Women’s College, Savar and a candidate for the 2020 senior high school exam.
The notice states that averaging JSC and SSC results will create opportunities for irregular, unsuccessful and unprepared students in multiple subjects, while deserving and hardworking students with a low GPA on JSC or SSC will not demonstrate their efforts. The notice states that determining the results of the next test by averaging the previous results is a form of coercion and illegal, which the responsible authorities cannot legally do.
Note that in a virtual press conference yesterday, the Minister of Education Dipu Moni said that this year’s HSC results will be determined by evaluating the results of the JSC and SSC exams. The results will be announced in December.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said: ‘I have spoken with test takers, parents, teachers and concerned people about the organization of the HSC exam. We have taken opinions and suggestions from them. We have decided to cancel the HSC and equivalent exams in 2020 after seeing the situation in many countries of the world regarding exams. The grade number will be determined by canceling the direct exam and evaluating the results of the JSC-JDC and SSC equivalent exams.
