The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Colonel (retired) Oli Ahmed, received a legal notice for calling the founder of BNP, the late President Ziaur Rahman, the ‘interim president’ of independent Bangladesh.
Lawyer Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed Asif, a Chandnaish resident in Chittagong’s Oli Ahmed constituency, sent the notice on Monday alleging distortion of the story.
The attorney said that if he did not withdraw his statement within 15 days of receiving the notice, legal action would be taken at a later date.
Asif further said: “In an interview with an expatriate journalist’s YouTube channel on August 18, Oli Ahmed said that Ziaur Rahman had handed responsibility over to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as ‘acting president’ of independent Bangladesh.” He further said that although the constitution and the Mujibnagar government statement had made this clear, the PLD chief had made such a statement as part of an attempt to distort the post-75-year history.
