Locals have organized a procession and human chain demanding justice for the murder of Awami League activist Khaledur Rahman from the village of Betalpara in Bagharpara upazila de Jessore. These programs were organized in front of the Jessore Press Club on Friday afternoon under the banner of the Jahurpur Union.
More than two hundred men and women from the Jahurpur Union participated in the one-hour human chain. Khaledur’s brother, Badr Uddin, BM Shahjalal, Secretary General of the Upazila Chhatra League, Nazrul Islam, Former Secretary General of the Upazila Juba League, Nazrul Islam, Former Organizational Secretary of the Upazila Awami League, Kamrul Islam, President of Jamdia Union Parishad and local Abdullah Rana spoke on the occasion. Speakers demanded the immediate arrest and trial of those involved in the incident, including the rebel Awami League candidate Dilu Patwari and his brother Nur Mohammad Patwari.
Local police and resident sources said some people, including Khaledur Rahman alias Tito, a supporter of the ship’s symbol, were staying at the Betalpara Bazaar at around 8.30pm on Wednesday. At that time, supporters of the Awami League’s “rogue candidate” Dilu Patwari attacked there. At the time, Khaledur was angry. He was rushed to Jessore General Hospital in critical condition. He later died on the way to Dhaka on Thursday morning.
Khaledur worked as a poll worker for the Awami League nominated candidate, Victoria Parveen. A case against Dilu Patwari, her brother and 18 others was registered at the Bagharpara Police Station on Friday morning. The police arrested one of them.
