Barguna DC Mostain Billah said the museum was named ‘Bangabandhu Ship Museum’ on the occasion of the Mujib Year.
The museum opened Thursday afternoon next to the DC office in the heart of the city district.
DC said the museum, installed on 7 percent of the site, is 165 feet long and 30 feet wide. The museum has various facilities including a ship research center, a modern library, Bangabandhu and Liberation War Corner, a children’s entertainment center, and a food court.
He said the construction work was completed in just 61 days amid various adversities, including epidemics.
DC said boats have been used as the main vehicle for the Bangladeshi waterfront for thousands of years. Even during the liberation war, the freedom fighters used boats in all the adventure operations against the Pakistani aggressors. The boats mix with the tradition of Bangladesh. Through the Bangabandhu Ship Museum, a new generation will be able to see the extinct Bahari-shaped ships.
The opening ceremony was attended by local political and socio-cultural leaders, including district administration officials.
