Lankakanda again with onion, the seller seizes the opportunity

Dhaka: No one has forgotten last year’s bitter experience with onions. Leaders and ministers had assured that at least this time the price of this essential product would be under control.

But on the same day that India declared a cessation of exports, unscrupulous traders got married. 50-60 rupees the onion became 70-100 rupees overnight. Apart from TCB’s Traxell, no government initiative has so far been taken to control this unfortunate situation.

As soon as the announcement was made to stop the export of Indian onion in the Bangladeshi market, buyers also started to move. Last year I had to buy and eat onions for up to Tk 300. So, to have time, buyers go to the market on Monday (September 14) evening. Many buyers are seen buying 3 to 10 kg onions.

And with this opportunity, the seller has also increased the price step by step. The price of imported onion from India has dropped from Rs 50 to Rs 60 overnight. And local onion between 80 and 100 rupees.

Suppliers say prices are likely to go up if everyone takes more in the crisis. And the buyer says that if they don’t buy onions now, the sellers will raise the price even more.
The image was seen on Tuesday (September 15) in the capital’s Rampura, Malibagh, Malibagh Railgate Bazar, Shantinagar, Segundobagicha, Fakirapul, Motijheel T&T Colony Bazar and Khilgaon Raw Bazar.

Currently, domestic onions are sold in these markets for between Rs 90-100 / kg. The price of imported Indian onion has risen to Rs 30 per kg. Currently, imported onions are sold in these markets at a price of 60 taka per kg.

Hamida came to the Rampura market to buy onions after learning about the price increase. Although there are three members in the family, she has bought eight kg of onion. She said that earlier the price had risen 200 rupees. It can happen again. Also, onions are needed all the time, so take it.

Poppy bought five kg of onion at the Khilgaon market. She said it would be two months now with some more at home. Why did they buy so many onions together? The answer is to laugh, the price will go up. She said, a day has passed and it has risen by 30 rupees. I don’t know how much money there will be in a week. The fear of the price increase is not only mine, many people have come to the market to buy onions. Once it was 250 rupees.

However, sellers are blaming buyers for the increase in the onion price. Hafizul, a trader, said: “This time our onion import has been less than demand.” In Khatunganj, the onions have rotted in the tidal water. India has announced a ban on onion exports to the Indian market. Buyers are also buying more and more onions, which has had an impact on the market. Buyers can be said to have dominated the current retail market.

Whatever happens, in the end suffering belongs to the common man.
