A guard at the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has been attacked with a knife. The attack took place on Thursday. Saudi state media reported that the attacker had been arrested.

The French embassy said a guard was attacked with a knife at the Jeddah consulate. The guard was taken to the hospital. His condition is not critical.

The embassy said in a statement that the French embassy was vigorously protesting the attack. There is no justification for any kind of attack on any diplomatic establishment.

The attacker struck shortly after noon in front of a mosque in the French city of Nice, killing one woman and wounding two others. The mayor of the city of Nice called the attack a terrorist attack.

France has been embroiled in controversy since the murder of a history teacher by a Muslim extremist over a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad. In this incident, Macron announced that he would continue to publish cartoons of the Prophet (peace be upon him). His announcement provoked a strong reaction in the Muslim world. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Macron needed psychiatric treatment for such an attitude towards Islam.

Following in the footsteps of other Muslim countries, this time Saudi Arabia has condemned France. Riyadh condemns the publication of offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or any attempt to link Islam with terrorism.
