Rohan, a three-and-a-half-year-old boy, was kidnapped Thursday morning in search of a better life. He was then transferred to the facilities of the Sadar Hospital. But after a while, the baby started crying. The baby was thrown into an open septic tank at the back of the hospital.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder. Police arrested the accused teenager at his home in the Arambagh area of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila around 12:30 pm on Saturday. He admitted that he had kidnapped Rohan, the son of Sujan Ali, a construction worker in nearby Masjidpara, after seeing the kidnapping and begging story on television, as he didn’t earn much by begging.

Police recovered the body of Rohan, aged three and a half, from an open septic tank at Sadar Hospital on Saturday night, two days after he disappeared from Masjidpara in Chapainawabganj municipality.

The father of the accused teenager passed away. The mother works in someone else’s home.

Chapainawabganj Additional Police Superintendent Mahbub Alam Khan said yesterday that Rohan’s mother had filed a complaint with the Sadar Police Station after her disappearance. The accused teenager was later arrested at his home around 12:30 pm.

Additional Police Superintendent Mahbub Alam Khan said the accused teenager was identified after CCTV footage was recovered from the hospital after Rohan’s body was recovered. During preliminary questioning, he told police that he had kidnapped Rohan and taken him to the hospital to beg. But Rohan started crying to go home. As a result, he threatens to throw Rohan into a tank discovered at the rear of the hospital. Trying to leave even after this, the child receives a blow to the head at a stage where he is held by force. Then he threw it into the tank.

Additional Police Superintendent Mahbub Alam Khan said that one case has been registered in this regard.

After the rescue of Rohan’s body, a shadow of mourning has descended over the Masjidpara area. The boy was buried after Janaza on Sunday morning.
