In the preliminary round, Gazi Group Chittagong was irresistible, they had won both games. In the first tie, Jamcon Khulna won by 48 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Khulna had 210 runs in 20 overs in a 60-run inning with 51 balls from Zahurul and a few other cameos. Chittagong with everything for 163 races.
After returning Chittagong’s two dangerous starters, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das, Mashrafe broke the biggest opposition alliance. Later he took two more windows towards the end. In total, he got 5 wickets for 35 runs in a mix of experience and smart bowling. His previous best in T20 was 4 of 11.
Khulna, who has been suffering batting throughout the tournament, took on a different form this day. Zahurul hit his previous best score. Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan played effective innings.
After losing the draw and opting to hit, Khulna’s scoring was quiet in the first two overs of innings. In the third final, Nahidul Islam was beaten by two six and four by Zahurul. After that there is no stopping. Shariful Islam reached six-four in the next over.
In fact, Zahurul led the team alone. His partner Zakir Hasan was asleep somehow. Zakir’s contribution in the opening pair of 71 runs was just 22 balls 18!
Khulna’s innings gained new momentum after Zakir’s departure in the race. Racing comes from both ends courtesy of Zahurul and Imrul Kayes.
Imrul hit two fours and six on the first four balls. Zahurul touched fifty of 33 balls. Then he took Sanjit Saha and sat down. The young spinner hit two sixes and one four of three consecutive balls.
The duo added 48 runs in just 4 overs. Imrul was caught on the edge by Mustafiz with 25 of 12 balls.
Zahurul also stopped at the next one. The 5 fours and 4 sixes innings ended with Mosaddeq Hossain playing a ball and catching a short thin leg.
Khulna’s race car is still running. Mahmudullah played a short and devastating inning of 30 on 9 balls. Shariful had three big six in a row.
With the hint of catching up with the bat, Shakib collected two fours and two sixes on 15 balls. This time he lost 15 for the first time in 9 innings.
Ariful’s bat comes from 9 15 balls. In the last finale, after Mustafiz walked away from the pins with two safety pins, Mashrafe got a six from Saumya.
Mashrafe then returned the ball to Soumya empty-handed. Mashrafe kept a fielder in the middle limit of the wicket for that southpaw. Soumya handed it to the gardener.
Before Soumya’s departure, Liton began chasing Mashrafe with four and six. He also hit four sixes against Al Amin Hossain. Mashrafe stopped this hitter in great shape in his second over. Confused by the shorter ball, Liton pitched before hitting (24 of 13 balls).
However, Chittagong did not give up after losing two starts. Mithun, who missed the entire preliminary round, kept the team’s hopes alive with all the great shots. He was also accompanied by the young Mahmudul Hasan Joy.
The captain returned Mashrafe to break this pair which became a headache in Khulna. This pair of 83 runs of 48 balls ended up in his hands. Mahmudul was caught in cover with 31 of 26 balls.
Mithun made his first fifty innings with 30 balls. After that, it couldn’t last long. The slow Ariful Haque stopped his innings of 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Then wait for the end of the game. Mosaddek Hossain, Saikat Ali could not withstand the storm. Mashrafe returned Shamsur Rahman in his last over. Enamul Haque, who was down to stay as a replacement due to Zakir Hasan’s injury, took a great reflex catch.
Mashrafe tested 5 wickets for the first time by firing Mustafiz at the end of the quota. He also got the best match honor in his third match.
