The ruling Awami League candidate, Kazi Monirul Islam Manu, won the Dhaka-5 by-elections.
He was declared the winner in a private result on Saturday (October 18). The announcement was made by the Election Commission’s results collection and distribution center established at Donia University College. The Dhaka region regional elections official, GM Sehtab Uddin, made the announcement around 10:15 pm.
He said that the Awami League candidate Kazi Monirul Islam Manu won a total of 45,642 votes with the ship symbol in 16 constituencies. His closest rival, BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed, got 2,926 votes for the main symbol of rice.
Monirul Islam won with 42,617 votes. Although the vote was only 10.43 percent.
Among the candidates vying for this seat in Dhaka, Mir Abdus Sabur of the Jatiya Party with the plow symbol 413, Md. Anshar Rahman Sikder dab symbol 49 and the National People’s Party. Arifur Rahman (Sumon Master) got 111 votes with the mango symbol.
The total number of voters in this constituency is 4 lakh 71 thousand 71, according to the Election Commission.
As soon as the results were announced, supporters of the Awami League candidate began chanting slogans. At the time, the regional electoral official said: “We are still in the electoral code of conduct.”
Voting in this constituency begins at 9 am and continues until 5 pm. Voting is done through EVM (Electronic Voting Machine).
On May 8, the death of Habibur Rahman Mollah vacated the Dhaka-5 post.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) consists of 48, 49, 50, 60, 61, 72, 64, 65, 6, 7, 8, 69 and 80 rooms.
Meanwhile, BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed has demanded the resignation of the government and the Electoral Commission and re-election by rejecting the results citing irregularities at the polls. He also announced a human network program in the constituency on Sunday (October 18) at 2 pm to protest the irregularities.
Although Saladino was a candidate, he could not vote because he was a voter in the Dhaka-4 constituency. Although Awami League candidate Monirul Islam claimed to have cast his vote at the Jatrabari Ideal School Center in the morning, election officials said he was not a voter in the constituency.
