Dhaka: Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur has been sent on two-day leave amid protests by lawyers.

This was stated by the leaders of the Dhaka Bar Association after a meeting with the Metropolitan Chief Magistrate on Wednesday (23 December) at noon.

Dhaka Bar Association Co-Secretary General Sikder Mohammad Akhter Uzzaman Himel told banglanews: “We have spoken with CMM AM Zulfiqar Hayat.” He said the judge had been sent on a two-day license.

“We have been assured that this judge will be removed,” he added. He is currently on leave. The official order will come in this.

After this assurance, the lawyers suspended their movement. The CMM court trial took place around 12:30 pm. Now the trial is proceeding normally.

Earlier, lawyers protested the removal of a judge for allegedly keeping a lawyer locked up for two hours. At around 9:30 am on Wednesday (December 23), a group of disgruntled lawyers locked everyone in the courtroom of Dhaka’s additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Asaduzzaman Noor.

The Magistrates Court of the Metropolitan Police Chief began the protest at the closed front door. They chanted slogans demanding the removal of the judge. As a result, CMM’s court proceedings are closed.

The aggrieved lawyer has filed an application with the Secretary General of the Dhaka Bar Association alleging detention. He wants a fair trial for this incident.

The lawyer’s name is Rubel Ahmed Bhuna. He said in the application that he went to court on Tuesday to handle the case. The judge said he would appear in court at 10:30 am. But the judge did not get up even at 11 o’clock and wanted to know the matter from the presenter.

The petition further stated that when the judicial process began later, the judge did not hear the lawyer’s case and asked him to come later.

The lawyer said that he then locked me up for two hours and said he would revoke my certificate and tell all the magistrates not to hear my case. I feel extremely humiliated and demand a fair trial.

However, on Tuesday night, the lawyer told banglanews that the leaders of the Dhaka Bar Association and the senior lawyers had solved the problem together. The judge regretted his actions.
