The incident took place in Jibanpur village in Shilmuri junction (north) on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Zahirul Islam, 35, Secretary General of Juba League, District 5 of Baruda Municipality.
The injured Rana has been admitted to the Baruda Upazila Health Complex.
Baruda Police Station OC Iqbal Bahar Majumder said Zahirul Islam and his friend Rana were standing in front of Hashem’s market in Jibanpur village around 2 pm for tea.
“At this point, some people suddenly attacked him with sticks.”
The OC said that the locals took Zahirul Islam and his accomplice Rana to the Baruda Upazila Health Complex from the scene and the doctor on duty declared Zahirul dead. Rana is in treatment at the hospital.
Zahirul Islam is the son of Abdul Malek from Jinsar village and Rana is the son of Saheb Ali from the same village, police said.
OC Iqbalro said the body was recovered and sent to the morgue. The case is pending. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
Condemnation and protest of the Municipal Juba League of Barura
He condemned and protested the attack and expressed deep regret for the grieving relatives.
Acting President of the Municipal League of Juba de Baruda. A statement signed by Khalilur Rahman demanded that those involved in the attack be arrested and brought to justice.
