HM Jahangir Hossain, President of the Dhaka Metropolitan North in Juba Dal and candidate of the Dhaka-17 constituency, has been attacked by Chhatra Dal leaders and activists at seven police stations in the capital’s Uttara district.

The incident took place at the home of Nur Hossain Hiru, a student leader who disappeared in the south of the capital around 10 a.m. on Sunday.

It emerged that on the occasion of the ‘International Day of Disappearance’ on Sunday, BNP executive committee member Tabith Awal and Nagar North BNP Senior Vice President Munshi Bazlul Basit Anju visited the home of the missing student leader. BNP nominees Kafil Uddin Ahmed and SM Jahangir also went to Nur’s home following news of Tabitha Awal’s arrival.

At that time, more than a hundred Chhatra Dal leaders and activists in seven Uttara police stations prevented Jahangir from entering the house. At one stage of the obstruction, the Chhatra Dal leaders got into a fight with Jahangir and his men.

Later, with the intervention of Tabitha Awal, Jahangir entered the house but was locked in a room.

At that time, Chhatra Dal leaders raised the issue of the beheading of some 15 Chhatra Dal leaders on the anniversary of Ziaur Rahman’s death in Uttara to Tabith Awal and Nagar BNP Vice President Munshi Bazlul Basit Anjur, in the presence of Jahangir.

Furthermore, Jahangir strongly opposed the party’s high command not to nominate the missing older brother of student leader Hiru, Amjad Hossain, despite wanting the BNP nomination in his own neighborhood. Jahangir removed Hiru’s older brother Amjad from the BNP committee.

For this reason, the agitated leaders raised many complaints and complained to the leaders present about why they brought Jahangir here.

At that time, BNP leader Anju, who was a heart patient, repeatedly asked leaders and workers to calm down. Later the situation calmed down with the intervention of Tabitha Awal.

Earlier, Chhatra Dal leaders staged a protest outside the BNP office in Gulshan with banners against Jahangir.
