‘Burning from one end of the world to the other / Echoing the proclamation / Flying new targets, beating drums in the direction / In this Bengal / You must come, oh freedom’ This poem by the poet Shamsur Rahman has truly come true in life of the Bengalis. In the words of the poet Nirmalendu Guna: ‘I did not have a free homeland / an independent country without chains; / In a hundred years of persecution / I have Bangladesh in you. ‘

Today (December 16) is the greatest achievement in the history of Bengalis. On this day in 1971, the slogan “Joy Bangla” resounded in the Bengal air. Today the entire nation will raise that slogan like that day. The red-green flag of victory will fly everywhere.

However, due to the Corona epidemic, there will be caution in celebrating this year’s victory. On this day of victory, an oath will be taken to confront all the conspiracies of the fundamentalist and communal forces of evil in the country. The oath will be taken to stop those who disrespect the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independence. An oath will be taken to eradicate those who hinder the development and progress of the country.

President on the occasion of the day. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered the message. In his message, the president said: “Independence is the best achievement of the Bengali nation in the history of the great age.” This achievement has brought the nation a sovereign country, an independent nation, a sacred constitution, its own map, and a red-green flag. However, it was not achieved in one day.

Behind this achievement is a long history of exploitation and deprivation, bloody fighting and self-sacrifice. In her message, the Prime Minister urged the people to unite against all communal evils inspired by the spirit of the great liberation war and to resist any conspiracy against the country, democracy and the government.

After nine months of armed struggle, on this day in 1971, 92,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered at the historic racecourse (now Suhrawardy Udyan). Bangladesh was born, sovereign and independent. The people of Bengal will float today in the joy of that victory.

The day will start with 31 artillery shots in the morning. Millions of people will gather at the National Monument in Savar. All will pay tribute to the martyrs with flowers at the altar of the martyrs. The songs of victory will be played on the roads and deserts of Bengal throughout the day. Vijaymancha will be built in important places. There will be discussions, recitation of poems, songs and dances.

Today the nation will remember the great hero of the freedom struggle, the architect of Bangladesh, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The new generation will be more determined to build the golden Bengal of their dreams. People from all walks of life will pay tribute to Bangabandhu by laying wreaths on his grave at Tungipara in Gopalganj. We will remember with gratitude our great friend India who helped us in the great war of liberation; That country was home to a crore of people. He provided training and courage to freedom fighters.

Today is a holiday. The state has done everything possible to celebrate the day with due dignity. National flags will be flown from government and private buildings across the country. This red-green flag will fly in front of the house, on the roof of the building or in the car.

At sunrise, the nation will pay homage to the immortal memory of the martyrs at the National Monument. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. National leaders will also pay their respects.

Newspapers will publish special supplements highlighting the importance of Victory Day. Bangladesh Betar, BTV, private radio and television will broadcast special programs. Meanwhile, several islands of roads, major government buildings and institutions in the capital have been illuminated.

Following the Corona disaster, various political, social and cultural organizations, including the country’s main political parties, have announced various programs in compliance with health regulations. These programs include raising the national flag, placing offerings at the Savar National Memorial, the victory procession, the debate meeting, the reception of heroic freedom fighters, Swadhin Bangla Betar, and cultural programs with artists from Deshbarenya.

Victory Day Programs: Extensive programs have been adopted nationwide on the occasion of the Great Victory Day. The Bir Shrestha family, war-wounded freedom fighters and heroic freedom fighters present under the leadership of the Minister of Liberation War will lay a wreath at the memorial.

People from all walks of life, including foreign diplomats serving in Bangladesh, leaders and activists from various political and social organizations, will pay their respects to the martyrs by laying wreaths.

Awami League Program: The Awami League will hoist the national flag and party flag at the party’s central office, Bangabandhu Bhaban, and the offices of organizations across the country at dawn on Victory Day. In addition, the group will lay a wreath at the Savar National Memorial at 9 am and pay tribute to the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Bhaban facility at 10.15 am.

The party will hold a limited discussion meeting at its headquarters at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue at 3.30pm. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the meeting by video conference. In addition, tributes, pilgrimages, prayers and milad mahfil have been organized at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara at 9:30 am.

Jatiya Party Program (JP): Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Anwar Hossain Monju, MP and Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam congratulated the heroic freedom fighters and compatriots on the occasion. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of the party at the National Memorial under the leadership of these two leaders at 8 am.
