Golam Sarwar, a missing member of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and a reporter for the weekly Suryodaya, has been rescued from the Kumira canal side in Sitakunda.
He was rescued around 6:30 pm Sunday, three days after his disappearance.
Kumira UP President Morshed Chowdhury said that locals saw an unidentified man lying on the side of the Kumira canal on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Sunday night. When he introduced himself as a journalist at the time, the locals immediately rescued him and briefed me on the matter. Based on the news from the locals, I reported the matter to the Thana Police and the Sitakunda Press Club. He was healthy even though he had no clothes at the time of the rescue.
Sitakunda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sumon Banik confirmed the incident and said that journalist Golam Sarwar, who was rescued from a canal near the road, has been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for receive treatment.
It is worth mentioning that journalist Golam Sarwar disappeared from Chittagong on the morning of October 29. Jubayer Siddiqui, Suryodaya’s assistant editor and Golam Sarwar’s colleague, presented a general diary at the Kotwali police station on Thursday evening.
