Riya Chakraborty and her brother Shauvik Chakraborty have been arrested in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. After the magistrates’ hearing, the session court also rejected the request for bail from the accused brothers and sisters. The judge reported that the bond did not correspond. So for now, the back address is Baikulla Correctional Institution in Mumbai. They kept him in a separate cell, not in the ordinary barracks, for security reasons. That single cell has no ceiling fan or bed.
Riya was transferred to Byculla Jail at 10.15 am on Wednesday after being arrested on Tuesday. Indrani Mukherjee, accused of the murder of Shina Bora, is sitting in the adjoining cell.
Riya has been kept in a separate cell for fear that Sushant Singh could attack the main accused of Rajput’s death in prison. Riya faced the anger of a large part of the crowd at Sushant Kand. However, intellectuals, including several Bollywood stars, recently supported Riya, saying: “Riya is innocent until proven guilty.”
Two officers on three shifts have been kept in Byculla jail just to protect Riya. Rhea has been given a mat to sleep on, no pillows or bedding. A jail worker said a table fan would be provided if the court allowed it.
The prisoners are given yellow milk to increase their immunity to the crown. Baikulla Jail is the only correctional facility for women in Mumbai. In recent months, several cases of Kavid-19 have come to light here.
Following the NCB’s lawsuit, the trial court detained Riya in judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday. That verdict was also confirmed in the Court of Sessions. Riya used to collect drugs for Sushant and is also accused of conducting financial transactions for those drugs.
Note that the NCB arrested Riya under various sections of the NDPS Act, which contains Section 26 (a). This is a no-bail clause. As a result, the request for back bail was rejected twice.
