The human chain took place in front of the National Press Club after 11 am on the initiative of the Nationalist Party of Freedom Fighters to protest against the ban on onion exports to India.
Jafrullah was joined by Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convenor of Citizens Unity, BNP leader Moazzem Hossain Alal, Dakshur Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, and leaders and activists from BNP and its various allied organizations.
Dr. Jafrullah Chowdhury began his speech by lamenting India. However, after a two-and-a-half minute speech in the scorching heat, he fell ill and sat on the sidewalk. They later took him home in their private car.
Jafrullah Chowdhury, 69, contracted the coronavirus in late May. Trustee Jafrullah, founder of the public health center, was admitted to the Dhanmondi Public Health Center hospital and received various plasma therapies.
After recovering, he went to pay his last respects to the coffin of Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim, who died of coronavirus. He rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to see Haider Akbar Khan Rono, another veteran leader who was being treated for coronavirus.
Even then, Jafrullah’s presence was seen in various meetings and demonstrations. However, he had to return without finishing his speech that day.
