Lawyer Khokon Saha and Pradeep Das, general secretaries of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League, have been indicted under the Digital Security Act on charges of defamation, incitement and propagation of religious hatred. Selina Hayat Ivy, Senior Vice President of the District Awami League and Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation.
Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy presented the case in the court of Bangladesh Cyber Court judge Assam Jaglul Hossain on Monday.
The judge accepted the plaintiff’s statement and ordered the CID to investigate the allegations and submit a report on February 8.
He filed the complaint in the wise cyber court of Dhaka. (Petition Case No. 06/2020, Articles 25, 26, 27, 29, 31 and 35 of the Digital Security Law 2018). Subsequently, the court learned of the complaint and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate.
The hearing in the case was set for February 8. Pradeep Das, a Canadian expat who runs a YouTube channel called ‘Hindu Lives Meter’, has been named the number one defendant in the case. And Khokon Saha has become the second defendant.
According to the charge sheet, in two separate YouTube videos on November 23 and December 1, Khokon Saha told Narayanganj Mayor Ivy, led by expat Pradeep Das, that family members, including Badini, Mayor Mahatab Uddin’s grandfather, had been illegally occupying Hindus’ property. Honorable Leader, you are the guardian of our Hindu community, you are our guardian, those who make up the Awami League, do not nominate these occupants. You will not bring them. Mayor Ivy took the Hindu vote. Nia worships Kali with vermilion, Kali bows to her mother. I am trying to unite the Hindu community and tell them that they will not vote for those who consume Debotto’s property. ‘
With all these statements, Mayor Ivy mentioned in the petition: “By hurting religious values and feelings against the spirit of the liberation war, it went viral on YouTube and Facebook with the purpose of creating social instability and communal disturbances and for politicians”. Which is falsely fabricated and misleading. This is an offense under articles 25, 26, 27, 29, 31 and 35 of the Digital Security Act 2018.
However, lawyer Khokon Saha, general secretary of the Mahanagar Awami League, told Narayanganj, the defendant in the case: “I said in a live program on a YouTube channel that the Debottar property of Deobhog Lakshmi Narayan Mandir will cost 11 million rupees. ” In fact, the price of a Waqf Debottar mosque, temple or property is priceless. What I have said about the pool of Zeus has touched the minds of a great number of Hindus. I will handle the case legally.
