Former Vice President of Dakshur Nurul Haque Nur has alleged that two defendants in the rape case of Dhaka University (DU) students, Nazmul Huda and Saiful Islam, along with Sohrab Hossain, the coordinator of the Central Committee of the Council of Student Rights, were detained by DB police. Nur made the accusations in a video message on Sunday (October 11). “Nazmul has been picked up from Maghbazar, Saiful from Chankharpul and Sohrab Hossain, the coordinator of the central committee, has been picked up from the press club,” he said.

The former Daksh vice chairman said: “The police can arrest Nazmul and Saiful as the defendants in the case against the BCL activist who brought the case against us on purpose.” But this case has nothing to do with Sohrab Hossain. Why was it taken away?

Meanwhile, DB joint commissioner Mahbub Alam said he did not know if anyone had been arrested in connection with the rape.

AKM Hafeez Akhter, Additional Police Commissioner in the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told the Bengali Tribune: “I don’t know if anyone has been arrested for raping a DU student. You can’t talk about it without knowing it.

It is worth mentioning that a DU student filed a case at the Lalbagh Police Station on the night of September 20 alleging rape and cooperation in rape. Six people, including former Vice President Daksh Nurul Haque Nur and Student Rights Council coordinator Hasan Al Mamun, were charged in the case. Nazmul Huda is the fifth defendant in this case. He is the vice president of the DU branch of that organization. Later, the student filed another case at the Kotwali Police Station.
