The methamphetamine or ‘ice’ drug brought from Malaysia has been recovered from various locations in the capital. Six people have been arrested at the same time.
The Ramna Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police carried out raids in the Gandaria, Gulshan, Banani and Bashundhara areas on Wednesday. Those arrested are Chandan Roy, Siraj, Avi, Jewel, Rubaid and Kanye. 600 grams of “ice” were recovered from them.
The information was given at a press conference on Thursday. DB AKM Additional Police Commissioner Hafeez Akhter addressed the press conference at DMP Media Center.
He said the national methamphetamine drug ‘Ice’ is widely used in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and China. This drug is also known as Cebu, Crystal Meth, or D Meth. Long-term use increases the risk of heart disease, damage to various organs of the body, and stroke.
Intelligence officer Hafiz Akhter said the price of 10 grams of ice was Tk 1 lakh. Stimulates multiple nerves. It can be taken by smoking, injecting or as a tablet.
This drug has been brought from abroad for the aristocracy. It costs between 10 and 12 lakhs to drink ice each time.
Citing information from the detainees, he said they had imported ice to capture the country’s market, targeting children from well-off families.
Chandan Roy is the main ice distributor. He brought them over the air through his expat relative Shankar Biswas and sold them through retailers in Dhaka.
Detectives said legal action was being taken against those arrested.
