BNP leaders and activists led by the party’s leader, engineer Ishraq Hossain, have protested against the renaming of the Ziaur Rahman High School in Mogaltuli in the Bangshal area of old Dhaka.

BNP leaders and activists began the procession from the Bangshal crossing on Sunday morning. From there they passed the school in the Mughaltuli area. BNP workers and supporters continued to protest there.

At this time, agitated workers erased the school’s changed nameplate with black ink. At that time, BNP deputy general secretary and president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohail and engineer Ishraq Hossain removed the leaders and activists from there. Later, they held a street demonstration on the Nawabpur road.

At that time, Ishraq said, “My father, the late Sadek Hossain Khoka, the last mayor of the undivided Dhaka, established this school in the name of Ziaur Rahman on March 25, 2007.” But for political reasons, the name of the school has recently been changed to Mughaltuli High School. He expressed his displeasure at the name change of the city corporation school even though there was no demand from the locals or anyone else.

Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohail said at the time that the name of Ziaur Rahman could not be erased from people’s minds simply by changing the name of the school. The common people of the country will not accept such heinous acts. The BNP leader said that the protest that has started will continue.
