Prior to 1996, he was the BNP-backed Chawkbazar area ward commissioner. He wants the BNP nomination in the 1996 parliamentary elections. If not, I want the Awami League nomination. After that, he participated in the elections with the ship brand and won. After this, he established his absolute dominance in the Lalbagh, Chawkbazar and Hazaribagh areas. Initially, the tried and tested leaders and activists of the local Awami League opposed Haji Selim, but at one point they became inactive as his influence continued to grow day by day.
The locals allege that Haji Selim established control over various ghats and market leases while he was a commissioner, but began occupying the land after becoming a member of parliament. In each district of his constituency, he has formed his own army. There are reports that Haji Selim has a separate group to collect masohara from each market in the Soarighat and Chawkbazar areas. Merchants also have to count money on a daily basis to take and receive goods in trucks and lorries.
The locals allege that Haji Selim has been involved in the land acquisition between Lalbagh and Chawkbazar since 1996. No one dared to open their mouth about this. Many aristocratic families in Old Dhaka were tortured by Haji Selim, who had fled the area for fear of losing his dignity.

After his death, his eldest son, Feku Haji, was in charge of the building. After Feku Haji’s death, his eldest son, Haji Abdul Haq, took over the building. The demolition of the building, known as an archaeological site, was prohibited by the High Court. But last year, on the eve of Eid, when Haji Abdul Haq alias Haq Sahib went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the people of Haji Selim demolished the building at night. Haji Selim is known to be willing to establish a multi-story market there. When Haji 1 wanted to speak to Abdul Haq about the matter, he expressed his inability. However, Moslehuddin, who used to do business there when the building was located, said Haji Selim’s people demolished the building without regard for law and order.

Several market association leaders said, on condition of anonymity, that traders in the surrounding old buildings had received an ultimatum to leave the store. They said that Haji Selim, the owner of Medina Builders, had been seen before to draw attention to the land, which he had acquired through trickery. So they are very afraid and panic.
Agrani Bank had a two-story building on a 14% lot in the Moulvibazar area of old Dhaka. The branch moved to a new building a few days ago as the building built after independence is very old. After that, Haji Selim noticed the building’s terrain.
Bank officials said the bank’s branch was also closed after the general holiday was announced due to the corona virus. The security guard on duty here is inside to protect the vault. On that occasion, Haji Selim demolished the old building and took office in May this year. He also built a wall that surrounded it at night. Last Monday night, the bank broke the lock on the gate of the border wall and seized it.
Haji Selim is also charged with occupying an acre of land for the Dhaka government secondary school for the deaf located in the area of the Lalbagh Police Station. The organization’s former president, lawyer Taimur Alam Khandaker, said the government approved the terrestrial school in a long-term agreement in favor of the main project of the Bangladesh National Agency for the Deaf. But sadly Haji Selim has taken that place by force. The court also ruled in our favor. But even after that, we couldn’t be busy due to Haji Selim.
Haji Selim’s Chan Sardar Cold Storage is located in a large area in Chawkbazar’s Chhotakata. However, several people have complained that Haji Selim has forcibly taken over the cold storage space of various owners. Haji Badiuzzaman from Old Dhaka claimed to be the owner of seven kathas from that land. “All kinds of property titles are in our name,” he said. Even after this, Haji Selim forcibly took the place. On several occasions we tried to rescue the land but in the end we could not due to the threats. Haji Badiuzzaman has asked the government to explain the land to the rightful owners. “Nobody opens their mouth out of fear,” he said. Haji Selim has forcibly occupied the cold storage of Chan Sardar and all the places around it. We have been doing Awami League for years. But since Haji Selim joined the Awami League, he has established a reign of terror in the area. You are taking possession of unused land as soon as you get it.

The Nalgola Sardar hardware market in the Chawkbazar area was under the control of the Bhawal Estate. Haji Selim has also got hold of him. However, there is a pending case in court. The same goes for the Bashir market in Chawkbazar. Haji Selim suddenly stormed the market on the night of Eid-ul-Adha last year and took control. Haji Selim has also taken over the Friendship Market, Mansur Khan Plaza and Hurricane Market in Old Dhaka. However, victims are afraid to open their mouths.
Haji Selim has seized not only the land of the common people, the properties of the Waqf and the lands allotted to the deaf, but also the Tibet Hall of the traditional Jagannath University, a traditional institution of higher education. There he built a market named after his wife, the city of Gulshan Ara.
Haji Selim is known to have occupied the 9 katha room at GL Perth Lane No. 6 and 9 in the Patuatuli Waizghat area. In 2001, he built the Gulshan Ara City Market in his wife’s name on the site of the hall. Jagannath students also staged several protests. Nothing worked. It is known that when student politics came to a halt in the 1990s, neighbors set fire to the second floor of the classroom in a confrontation with students.
