Irregularities in the purchase of beds at Corona Hospital, summoning the former PSK of the Minister of Health

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Waheedur Rahman, former private secretary (APS) of the Minister of Health, Zahid Malek, for questioning. You have been asked to appear at ACC central office on October 14.

Waheedur Rahman is currently the Executive Director of the Barguna District Council.

In the notification sent by the ACC, allegations of illegal assets have been filed against him, including irregularities in the purchase of beds at the Corona Hospital built at the Bashundhara Convention Center.

On January 9, 2019, Waheedur Rahman was appointed PS of Health Minister Zahid Malek. Previously, he was undersecretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education.

Previously, the ACC had questioned former APS health minister Arifur Rahman Sheikh in January on charges of embezzlement in the name of training and acquiring illegal assets, including hiring preferred contractors at various government hospitals and medical colleges. He was later relieved of the Minister’s APS position.

Meanwhile, the ACC deputy director, Shamsul Alam, has sent notices to 12 employees of the Department of Health to appear for questioning on October 13, 14 and 15 on the charge of acquisition of unprofitable assets.

During questioning, 12 department employees, including Programming Assistant Ruhul Amin, Assistant Chief Jahangir Hossain Hawlader, and Personal Officer Shahjahan Fakir, were asked to bring their and his wife’s passports, their national identity card ( NID) and copies of income tax returns.
