Irfan Mohammad Selim, the son of Dhaka-6 MP Haji Mohammad Selim, was acquitted in a weapons and drugs case brought by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). He has been released for four reasons.
The reasons are: error in the declaration, inaccuracy of the place, absence of evidence and non-receipt of the declaration of the magistrate in question. This information has been highlighted in the final reports of the two cases. Two final reports were presented to the court on Monday. Copies of the two reports have come to Play.
According to the final report of the case, the weapons and drugs were not specified in the brief of the case. According to the statement, RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam was present at the time of the incident. But he refused to testify before the investigating officer. No witnesses in favor of weapons and drugs were found during the investigation. Investigative Officer Chawkbazar Model Police Station Inspector Muhammad Delwar Hossain submitted final reports to the court on Monday.
Asked about this, Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center, told Jugantar that the final report of the case presented by the RAB could raise many questions on the minds of many. There may be adverse reactions in the public mind. But the DMP believes there is no room for questioning or adverse reactions. He said the case is a preliminary report. It is not uncommon for research to fail.
Also in the past, the police have filed many cases as plaintiffs and the final report has been submitted after the investigation. There is ample evidence for this. He said that although Irfan Selim was acquitted of the case, an indictment was filed against his partner Zahidul Mollah. Because, the accusation brought against Jahidul in the statement has been proven.
Weapons and drugs were found in his possession. In response to a question, Deputy Commissioner Walid Hossain said that the investigation into the case against Irfan for beating Naval Officer Wasif Ahmed Khan was in its final stages. In this case, the charge sheet will be issued soon.
If you want to know about this, RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt. Colonel Ashiq Billah told Jugantar: “We will not comment on the final report released by the police at this time.” I will look at the report first and then reply.
According to the details of the case, RAB NCO Qayyum Islam filed a case against Irfan and his accomplice Jahidul at the Chawkbazar police station on 27 October. Based on intelligence information, a raid was carried out on Chan Sardar Bhaban on Devidas Lane, Chawkbazar on 26 October. A search of Jahidul’s body turned up a black pistol, 408 Yaba tablets and two mobile phones.
A search of Irfan Selim’s room found an illegal foreign gun, magazine, and beer. Selim and Zahidul recovered a BB gun, two black knives, a Chinese ax, foreign liquor, 36 different brands of black batteries and chargers along with a walkie-talkie, handcuffs and a camera drone on the fifth floor of the building. RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam was present at the time. These were confiscated under his direction.
According to the final report, Irfan Selim is the elected councilman of the 30th district of Dhaka South City Corporation. Irfan’s bedroom was mentioned in the statement and on the seizure list, but it was not a bedroom. That was the guest room. Who or what kept the gun in his guest room with the nefarious purpose of humiliating Irfan’s political career and tarnishing his image. Other than this, the gun was not mentioned in the statement and the seizure list.
The final report of the drug case also presents similar information (similar to the report of the gun case). Irfan’s room was mentioned as the scene of the case, but the drugs were recovered from his guest room. Apart from this, the plaintiff did not mention the fact that foreign liquor and beer were recovered from the car.
It can be mentioned that on the night of October 25, in Dhanmondi, some people got out of Haji Mohammad Selim’s car with the word ‘Member of Parliament’ and beat Wasif Ahmed Khan, a naval officer. The following day, the officer filed a case against Irfan and four other people at the Dhanmondi Police Station. On October 26, the RAB raided Haji Selim’s home in Old Dhaka. Irfan was sentenced to a year and a half and his bodyguard to a year in prison by a mobile RAB court.
