Another defendant in the same case AB Siddique alias Dipu was arrested and presented yesterday in court. The court granted him a preventive detention of three days. Earlier in the day, Irfan’s driver, Mizanur Rahman, was in police custody for a day.
Irfan and Zahid have already been convicted in a mobile court.
Meanwhile, Irfan has been suspended from the position of 30th District Councilor of the Dhaka South City Corporation on charges of moral turpitude and misconduct.
The RAB raided the home of Haji Selim, Irfan’s father and a ruling party deputy, at Bara Katra in Old Dhaka on Monday after it struck naval officer Wasif Ahmed Khan on Sunday night. At the time, a mobile RAB court sentenced Irfan to one year in prison for drug possession. He was sentenced to six months in prison for possessing an illegal walkie-talkie. Irfan’s bodyguard, Zahid, was sentenced by a mobile court to six months in prison for carrying a walkie-talkie.
Weapons, yaba, 36 walkie-talkies and other equipment were recovered from the house. Another case has been brought against Irfan and Zahid under the Weapons and Narcotics Act.
