Iran is furious with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The country has already summoned the Turkish ambassador.
Iran is known to have been angered by the recitation of a poem by Erdogan during his visit to Azerbaijan. In this context, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Turkish ambassador to the country this Friday.
According to Al Jazeera and Hindustan Times, Erdogan recited an Azerbaijani-Iranian poem about the division of Azerbaijani territory between Russia and Iran in the 19th century.
According to Iran, reciting Erdogan’s poem could increase separatist tendencies among Azeri minorities in their country. Erdogan’s recitation of such poems has been described by the country as an “unauthorized practice.”
According to the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the Turkish ambassador was informed that the era of “regional demands and expansionist empires” was over.
He added that Iran does not allow anyone to interfere with its territorial integrity.
The poem that Erdogan recited had a few lines: “They parted the river Ars and filled it with rods of stone. I will not part with you. They have separated us by force. Source: Al Jazeera
