Internet-dis strike suspended

Dhaka: The strike was canceled at the request of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and the Minister of State for ICT and a meeting with the mayor of South City.

The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators of Bangladesh (COAB) made the announcement at a zoom meeting on Saturday (October 17) evening.

The announcement was made by ISPAB President Aminul Hakim and Secretary General Imdadul Haque, Founding President of Coab, SM Anwar Parvez. “We are suspending our symbolic strike starting tomorrow,” they said.

Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar, Minister of State for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications. In addition to Afzal Hossain, the leaders of Coab and ISPAB were also present at the zoom meeting.

The two organizations called a symbolic strike from 10 am to 1 am every day starting Sunday (October 18) to protest the cutting of the highway cable without any further action. The ISPAB chairman claimed that he had cut around Rs 20 million Tk.

His court began in two corporate areas of the city last August. Meanwhile, North City Corporation had stopped its court, but South City Corporation continued with its court.

Mostafa Jabbar said the prime minister’s chief secretary has been informed. You will raise general issues with the Prime Minister. Hopefully we get quick action from the Prime Minister. Call the strike.

Calling for the suspension of the strike, State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak said: “I hope we will find a logical solution in the next seven days.”

The telecommunications secretary said the city corporation had informed him that the cable would not be cut for now.

It became known that there is a meeting between the mayor of South City Corporation and ISPAB leaders on Sunday morning.

ISPAB President Aminul Hakim said the next decision would be announced after the meeting.
