In addition to festivals at the national level, the cabinet department has given instructions to avoid large events and decorations on different days. The Cabinet Division modified the circular eight years ago on the occasion of the National and International Day.

According to a circular issued by the General Services Branch of the Cabinet Division, officials and employees from outside the district or the district level cannot be invited to any day-centered events in the capital, except for special needs. According to the circular, large-scale decorations and ceremonies should be avoided as much as possible on different days in addition to national festivals. In the case of a week’s observance, the schedule should generally be limited to three days.

The circular said that any program initiated by the government must be ensured so that it does not disrupt the operation of the office and efforts should be made to organize debates or cultural events on holidays or outside office hours. General events that will require spending money or resources in the form of cash or materials can be held on holidays or business days. Such as preaching by the president and prime minister, raising the flag (if applicable), private lectures, radio and television discussions, newspaper press releases. However, on the occasion of the celebration of any day or week, bringing officials and employees to Dhaka from outside the capital or from the district level should be avoided as far as possible.

According to the circular, the 16 days in category ‘A’ will be celebrated with due dignity. Of the 34 days of class ‘B’, the days that are traditionally observed or that are especially useful for the protection of the environment, development and social improvement of the country today, can be observed in a significant number. Ministers will participate in these events and the Prime Minister may be invited considering the importance of such events. A maximum of Rs 50,000 can be allocated from government sources to organize this level of event.

Regarding the 33 days in category ‘C’, the circular said that the symbolic days of the special sector will be observed in a limited number of days. The ministers will consider attending these days, but no special allocation will be made from the development sector for the observance of these days.

In addition to the three types of days, different ministries or departments and related departments observe a few more days, which are customary. In some cases they are repetitive and do not have much importance today. The circular also said that to save government time and resources, government agencies can avoid getting involved in observing those days.
