India’s new High Commissioner arrived in Bangladesh from Tripura on Monday at the Akhaura international immigration checkpoint in Brahmanbaria. From there he left for Dhaka.

The official said the new High Commissioner laid a wreath on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait in Dhanmondi in the afternoon after meeting with the High Commissioner’s staff.

Vikram Doraiswamy, who studied history at the University of Delhi, also worked as a journalist for some time before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Before taking over the Bangladesh Mission, the professional diplomat was Indian Ambassador to South Korea and Uzbekistan.

During his tenure as Co-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doraiswamy held various positions in the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar divisions. He was also the head of the ministry’s SAARC department.
