The importation of onions from India has started in full swing. The onions began arriving through all the country’s land ports on Saturday. As a result, commodity prices have started to fall in the country’s market.
The state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) says the domestic onions were sold at a price of Tk 35-45 per kg in the capital’s retail market on Saturday, 10-15 per kg less. Imported onions have been sold at a reduced price of Tk 5-10 per kg from Tk 25 to Tk 35. Analysts say that the product is imported throughout the year, but this is not good news for farmers at the moment .
Meanwhile, Jugantar’s Dinajpur correspondent Ekram Talukder said Indian onions entered Bangladesh through the Healy land port in Dinajpur after being closed for three and a half months after India lifted the ban on December 27. . The country’s first truck carrying onions arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday.
Jugantar’s Shibganj correspondent said six trucks entered the country’s market through the land port of Sonamasjid on Saturday. This truck had 150 tons of onions. The Deputy Commissioner for Land Ports (Customs) Mominul Islam confirmed the information.
Meanwhile, Harun-ur-Rashid Harun, Chairman of the Healy Land Port Import and Export Group, said that the import value of the first shipment was around 20 Tk per kg.
Satkhira’s correspondent said that Indian onions began arriving through the land port of Bhomra on Saturday. According to Bhomra customs sources, more than 25 onion trucks are already waiting to enter Bangladesh at the Indian port of Ghojadanga instead of Bhomra.
