India is allowing the export of 25,000 tonnes of onions to Bangladesh on an emergency basis amid a ban on onion exports.

A source in New Delhi confirmed this information to Kaler Kantha on Friday evening.

An official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said India had allowed onion exports to Bangladesh under sanctions as a sign of strong friendship.

The Indian government has stopped exporting onions to other countries, including Bangladesh, since last Monday. Since then, 250 truckloads of onions have been stuck on various roads in India waiting to enter Bangladesh.

Since 9-10 days have passed since loading, these onions have started to rot due to excessive heat and rain. If these onions are not exported in such a situation, importers will suffer huge losses.

The Union Ministry of Finance on Tuesday asked interested departments to immediately inform the departments concerned about the number of trucks in various land ports and the number of onions in them. That is why his idea is to allow trucks and wagons to enter Bangladesh at any time on Wednesday, said Kartik Chakraborty, the Trade Union Trade Ministry.

Haroon Ur Rashid, Chairman of the Healy Land Port Import and Export Group, said that if trucks loaded with onions now stationed at various ports were unable to enter Bangladesh, most of the onions would soon rot and onion traders from both countries would suffer financially.

Harun-ur-Rashid said that some 20,000 metric tons of onions are waiting in various land ports, which, unlike the LC last Sunday, have completed the bidding process correctly and should not be banned, even after that, they are it is allowing this large quantity of onions to enter Bangladesh. Not? If this perishable product does not reach Bangladesh, the onion traders in the two countries will face huge economic losses.
