When the committee meeting began in the parliament building on Wednesday afternoon, the predetermined program was first discussed. After that, a closed-door meeting was held with just the committee members.
However, the committee’s chairman, Muhammad Farooq Khan, said that it has been decided not to officially say anything to the media about what was discussed there.
After the meeting, he told bdnews24.com: “Since it was our closed-door meeting, I do not want to say anything to the media about the decision or recommendation. We have discussed relations with neighboring countries, including India and China. You may say that topics of interest have come up in our discussions. “
The sudden visit of India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Schringler to Bangladesh was questioned at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs last August. It was at that meeting that it was decided to hold a closed-door meeting on relations with India and neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, at the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, it was reported that around six and a half lakh working women from Bangladesh are working in different countries around the world. The parliamentary committee advised the Foreign Ministry to be aware of its advantages and disadvantages.
The meeting also advised to be vigilant so that the demand for repatriation of workers due to an isolated incident does not arise.
In this regard, Farooq Khan said: “Many of our workers are now in exile. I have heard a lot about them at different times. We have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the initiative in coordination with the Ministry of Welfare for Expatriates. I told you to be alert at all times. “
The meeting also discussed migrant workers who were unable to return to their workplaces due to the ongoing epidemic.
According to the Foreign Ministry, arrangements are being made for the return of Bangladeshi workers stranded on special flights by extending their visas and work permits through diplomatic contacts with the countries concerned.
Arrangements have already been made for the return of 2,560 stranded expats from Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
On the issue of the repatriation of Saudi expatriates, Farooq Khan said: “Most of the people have been repatriated there. In some cases, the employer’s organization has closed due to the crown. As a result, they cannot take their staff. However, this number is not very high. “
The meeting was informed that necessary measures have been taken to create employment for unemployed expatriates due to the coronavirus epidemic, the repatriation of stranded Bangladeshi nationals, the repatriation of stranded expatriates to their respective places of work and special aviation.
Chancellor AK Abdul Momen, member of the committee chaired by Farooq Khan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Shahriar Alam, Nurul Islam Nahid, Golam Farooq Khandaker Prince, Maryland. Abdul Majid Khan and Md. Habib Millat participated.
