The country has given final approval for the emergency use of the covacin vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech, based in Hyderabad, India. India’s drug controller, General VG Somani, made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday.

VG Somani said that the local company’s Bharat Biotex vaccine and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine have been approved for “controlled emergency use” and both vaccines are safe. We will never approve anything that has the slightest concern for security. These vaccines are 100% safe.
However, Indian media say the vaccine was quickly approved before the third phase or final trial. However, Sabita Verma, a professor of pharmacology associated with the India Biotech vaccine, said that the covacin vaccine had shown good efficacy in an initial trial. However, India Biotech is talking about conducting the third largest trial of any vaccine in India.
Professor Sabita Verma said the preliminary results of the trial will be available next March.
