In the second phase, the Rohingya arrived in Bhasanchar on Tuesday afternoon. In the morning, the group of Rohingya set sail from Chittagong to Hatiyar Bhasanchar in Noakhali in 6 naval ships. In Bhasanchar, various colorful banners and festoons were put up to welcome the Rohingya. At the time, the Rohingya were stationed on the pier and greeted by senior officials from the navy and the district administration.

In the second phase, 1,604 Rohingya from 427 families came to Bhasanchar on a voluntary basis. Of these, 433 are men, 523 are women and 748 are children.

On Tuesday (December 29) morning, they left Chittagong for Hatiyar Bhasanchar in Noakhali and arrived at 1pm. At that time, Bhasanchar’s health workers completed their health check, and members of the navy gave some instructions to the designated warehouse.

A total of 1,604 Rohingya from 426 families were brought to Chittagong by 39 buses on Monday morning through special security. In addition, 11 cargoes and trucks carrying Rohingya goods were added to the fleet. Earlier on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, Rohingya from 34 camps in Ukhia-Teknaf were taken to the temporary transit point on the grounds of Ukhia Degree College.

Meanwhile, 1,842 Rohingya went to Bhasanchar in the first phase on December 4. Previously, more than 300 Rohingya were detained en route to Malaysia.

According to official data, the government has implemented the Bhasanchar Asylum Project at a cost of Tk 3,095 crore of its own funds for the relocation of Rohingya. Infrastructure has been built in 120 clustered villages suitable for one lakh of Rohingya. The Bangladesh Navy is responsible for the implementation and management of the entire housing project in Bhasanchar.

It can be mentioned that more than 6 lakhs of Rohingya took refuge in Bangladesh after crossing the border on August 25, 2016 in the face of murder and torture by the Myanmar army. More than 1.1 million Rohingya have taken refuge in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.
