In the first phase, 31 UP presidents were elected unopposed

In the first phase of the Parishad Union (UP) elections, 353 candidates were eliminated from the verification and selection of the nomination documents. Among them, there are 60 in the position of president, 56 in the position of reserved member (female member) and 225 in the position of member (member).

On Friday, the returning official reviewed and selected the nomination documents. As a result, the number of unopposed presidents-elect increased from 26 to 31. The Secretariat of the Electoral Commission (EC) said this on Sunday. In the first phase, voting will take place on April 11 at 361 UP.

EC officials said those whose nomination papers have been canceled can appeal if they wish. If you are not satisfied there, there is an opportunity to go to court.

According to EC sources, 1,852 people submitted nomination documents for the position of president on the last day for the presentation of nomination documents on Thursday. Of these, 1,099 are independents and 653 are party candidates.

In addition, 14,435 people submitted nomination papers for the general member position and 4,303 people submitted nomination papers for the women’s reserved member position. At the end of the selection, 1,060 nomination papers were declared valid for the position of president, 14,208 for the position of general member (member) and 4,250 for the position of reserved female member (female member).

In this election 358 candidates nominated by Awami League submitted their nominations. The selection of four of them has been canceled. In addition, 10 of the 228 nominations of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and 2 of the 32 nominations of Japar were canceled. In addition, the nomination works of 53 independent candidates were canceled.
