Speaking to the police, family and locals, it was learned that Kamal Hossain went to the area on Monday afternoon to gather information and take pictures of the news of the illegal extraction of sand cutting the bank of the Jadukata river. There, some people grabbed him and started hitting him randomly. He was seriously injured. Later, the men grabbed him and took him to nearby Chawkbazar. There he was tied to a tree with a rope. Upon hearing the news, another local journalist and members of Kamal Hossain’s family rushed to the scene with police from the Badaghat outpost in the area. He was later rescued and admitted to the Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
While undergoing treatment at the health complex, Kamal Hossain told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone that he was sitting in a nearby shop talking to locals after taking a photo of cutting sand on the banks of the Jadukata River. At that time Mahmudul Islam, Deen Islam and Rais Uddin came to the village of Ghagtia and started beating him at random. His forehead is full of photos. Later he was caught and tied to a tree with a rope. Kamal Hossain further said that at the time of his beating, people were saying that the extraction of sand in the river would stop as soon as journalists broke the news. That is why they will finish it today. What will happen later. The assailants took his mobile phone and camera from him.
