Rajshahi: The measles and rubella vaccination campaign will begin on December 12 throughout the country. A press conference was held in Rajshahi on Thursday afternoon (10 December) to commemorate the campaign against measles and rubella.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (Rasik) was present as keynote guest at the press conference held in the Nagar Bhaban City Hall meeting hall. After vaccinating several children, the mayor inaugurated the program by distributing vaccination cards.
Khairuzzaman Liton said that the children of today are the future of tomorrow. Measles and rubella are two serious infectious diseases caused by the virus. These two diseases usually spread very quickly through sneezing and coughing from an infected patient to other people who come in contact with him. Everyone needs to get vaccinated against measles and rubella for the next generation to grow up healthy and strong. We all have a responsibility to protect them.
He said Rajshahi City Corporation is a unique organization in the country in maternal and child health care. Rasik won first place in the country 9 times in a row in the EPI vaccination program. This has been possible with the cooperation of all stakeholders, including Rasik’s health department.
Neighborhood Councilor Nuruzzaman Tuku, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Health, Family Planning and Health Protection, Rasik, was the special guest at the function. Enamul Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Hasina Mumtaz and others.
The campaign will take place every business day in two centers in each district of the Rajshahi metropolis. The goal is to vaccinate about 75,640 children under the age of 9 months to 10 years with 1 dose of the measles and rubella vaccine. For the successful implementation of this program, 132 vaccinators, 60 supervisors and 600 volunteers are involved.
