On Sunday, the NLD condemned the post-election killings as political violence and called for an immediate investigation.

Mio Nayunt, a party spokeswoman, said newly elected MP Hatike J used to have a shop in front of her home in the city of Chakme. There he was shot dead.

The bullet hit the right side of his chest. He died on the way to the Chakme district hospital, the Myanmar Times reported.

Myanmar held general elections on November 8. Hatike, 50, won a seat. Leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party, the NLD, also won by an overwhelming majority.

Soon after, NLD spokesman Nayunt described the murder of the newly elected MP as “bad for the future”.

Police have not commented on the killings.

Suu Kyi’s party won a majority in Myanmar, promising a unity government

This is the second general election in Myanmar. The latest results confirm a majority after the NLD claimed victory in the preliminary election results.

However, the opposition Union, Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), backed by the Myanmar military, has demanded re-election, citing voting irregularities. Meanwhile, the NLD has demanded proof of voting irregularities.

The seat won by Hatike J was previously held by the Shan Ethnic Party and the seat was in dispute, said NLD spokesman Nayunt. However, he did not elaborate.

Earlier this month, the home of an Election Commission official was attacked in the city of Chakme.
