A daughter-in-law called the National Emergency Service 999 and charged her father-in-law with rape. The police arrested the father-in-law on the basis of the complaint.
On Sunday (September 20) at 11 am, a woman called a caller from a home at Mirpur 11, Block A, Road 19 below the Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka at the National Emergency Service run by the Bangladesh Police.
She said in a tearful voice that she had been raped by her father-in-law. Her husband is physically disabled and has a son. Her mother-in-law died four months ago. Since then, her father-in-law has been harassing her in various ways. But he was unable to say anything for fear of public embarrassment. Her father-in-law raped her Sunday morning and threatened not to reveal the incident. Since her husband is disabled, she cannot do anything against her father. She called 999 and asked for emergency police and legal help.
999 immediately spoke to the Pallabi Police Station Duty Officer with the caller. Upon receiving the news, a team of Pallabi police officers immediately rushed to the scene. Later, Pallabi SI Police Station Shafiar Rahman told 999 by phone that he went to the scene and rescued the victim’s 25-year-old daughter-in-law and arrested his father-in-law Awal Ali (60).
The victim’s medical examination and other legal actions are being processed.
