The dissident Iranian journalist Ruhullah Jam has been executed. The news was confirmed by almost all Iranian media, including the state news agency IRNA and the semi-official Noor news agency. Jam’s death sentence was carried out on Saturday morning, they said.
Ruhullah was forced to live in exile outside of Iran for some time. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested Jam in 2019 on charges of conducting anti-Iranian propaganda in collaboration with France, Israel and other Western countries. Complaining against him, he announced the ‘fall of Iran’ through the messaging app ‘Telegram’ and his own ‘Amad News’.
Ruhullah was charged with “corruption in the land” at the time. Typically, these accusations are made against people involved in spying or attempting to overthrow the Iranian government. Ruhullah was convicted of the charge. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Iran announced his death sentence.
A report from the semi-official Isna news agency on Saturday said that the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s office in Tehran had announced the execution of Ruhullah. The international community has condemned the execution of the 46-year-old Iranian journalist.
