A leader of the ruling BJP in West Bengal, India, was shot dead by criminals in broad daylight in front of a police station.
The incident took place in front of the Titagarh Police Station in Barrackpore on North 24 Parganas around 8 p.m. local time on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Manish Shukla. He was known as the ‘BJP Strongman’ of Barrackpore.
According to the Kolkata daily Anandabazar, Manish was standing near the Titagarh police station last night. At that moment, the criminals arrived on a motorcycle and shot him. His partner Govinda was shot while trying to save him.
The man was later rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and doctors pronounced him dead.
Witnesses said a protest procession from the Trinamool Congress was passing through the streets just before the incident. Once the procession left, several motorcycles came from behind. The faces of the drivers and riders were covered with helmets.
Manish was shot by villains who were cycling at point-blank range. Several shots were fired at Manish’s body. He fell on the spot. His partner Govinda was shot at the time while trying to save him.
