‘Illegal’ motorcycles on the market | The first light

[ad_1]

During the Corona period, there was a shortage of legal motorcycles on the market due to disruption in the supply system and complications in unloading. All three companies said shipments of their parts were being delayed due to congestion at ports in Sri Lanka and Singapore. Of course, not everyone has this problem.

ACI’s Subrata Ranjan Das said they have fallen into the evacuation trap. Technology has changed a lot since the definition of ERC (disconnected) was established in 1996. The previous definition was to import motorcycle tires and tubes separately. Now no tube is used in the tires of advanced technology motorcycles. All of this has created complications.

The Bangladesh Motorcycle Assemblers and Manufacturers Association (BMAMA) sent a letter to the Ministry of Industries on November 22 in this regard. It is said that in 23 years there have been many changes in motorcycle technology. Technologies such as electronic fuel injection, anti-lock braking system (ABS), air cooling system, etc. have been added. That is why it is important to change the definition.

About five lakh motorcycles are sold in the country each year. There are now at least seven well-known brand motorcycle factories; Bajaj, TVS & Hero from India, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha from Japan and the only national brand racer.

Overall, Matiur Rahman, president of BMAMA and president of Uttara Motors, a marketer of Bajaj-brand motorcycles with the largest market share, said that some motorcycles come from outside the company’s exclusive dealer. However, it does not exceed the total size of the market. He said it was important to change the definition of ERC. Otherwise, it will be difficult to unload the imported goods.
