Ignoring the plea, the Iranian fighter executed

According to Al Jazeera, Afkari and his family have claimed that he was tortured in prison and falsely confessed to the murder. The lawyer claimed that no evidence of his guilt was found. The Iranian judiciary, however, has denied the allegations.

A provincial court in Shiraz sentenced the other two Afkari brothers to life imprisonment for participating in anti-government protests. Wahid Akfari has been incarcerated for 54 years and Habib Akfari for 27 years.

Akfari’s lawyer, Hassan Younesi, complained that he was not allowed to see his family for the last time before the death sentence was carried out.

Wrestling is a very popular sport in Iran. So far, Iran has won 43 Olympic medals. Naveed Afkari was a national champion.
