Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reiterated on Thursday that the government will not allow the opening of educational institutions in the interest of the safety of children and teachers unless the coronavirus situation improves.
“We are thinking about the children and we have given time until January 15,” he said. If the situation improves during this period, the (educational institution) will be opened, otherwise not.
The Prime Minister said this when inaugurating a festival to distribute 35 million new books to approximately 4.5 million students across the country.
Although the main event was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital, the Prime Minister participated from Ganobhaban via video conferencing.
However, due to the Corona situation, even if the educational institution is not open, the online teaching activities will continue as before, the Prime Minister said.
Sheikh Hasina said that he is well aware that children and students have suffered the most due to the continued closure of educational institutions due to Kovid-19.
No one knows when the world will be free of this coronavirus, when we can decide to open educational institutions. Meanwhile, the second wave of Corona is happening again, ‘he said.
The Prime Minister said that textbooks are being distributed to ensure the continuity of students’ academic activities despite the uncertainty about the opening of educational institutions.
In this context, he ordered the interested authorities to distribute the books in stages, maintaining the health guidelines.
The Prime Minister said that the children of today are the future of the country and will become worthy citizens of the country through proper education in their respective fields.
Promising to illuminate every house in the country with the light of education, he said: “Children will make the name of the country famous in the world arena by acquiring the proper knowledge and education.”
Sheikh Hasina said: ‘Education is the most important issue. You cannot develop a nation without it. We want to see Bangladesh developed, prosperous and free from poverty. Because I know that it will never be possible to lift a nation out of poverty without an educated nation. ‘
“That is why the government has paid special attention to education and since 2010 the government has been distributing free textbooks to students,” he said.
Sheikh Hasina said: “We will build Bangladesh as a developed, prosperous country free from hunger and poverty and we are working towards it.”

By the way, like every year, on the first day of the year, January 1, about five million books will be distributed to four and a half million students across the country. However, thanks to Corona, new books will be distributed to first through ninth grade students in a total of 12 days.
