Sylhet: Sylhet District Police arrested Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, a former Deputy Inspector (SI) in charge of the Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet, accused of killing Raihan Uddin, who was tortured to death at a police post.
He was arrested in the Dona border area of Kanaighat upazila district on Monday (November 9) at 2pm.

Raihan was tortured at the police post in the early hours of October 11. He died at Osmani Medical College Hospital around 8:50 am.
Police claimed that Raihan had been beaten to death during the abduction, but the victim’s family and relatives alleged that the police had arrested and tortured him to death at the outpost.
The victim’s wife filed a murder case at the Kotwali Police Station. Following the allegations from the family and the case, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police investigation team fired four policemen, including manager Akbar, and removed three more after discovering the truth about Raihan’s death at the torture post. . The sacked policemen are Harunur Rashid, Touhid Mia and Titu Chandra Das, officers from the Bandarbazar outpost. The retired police personnel are Deputy Assistant Inspector (ASI) Ashek Elahi, ASI Qutb Ali and Officer Sajib Hossain. Akbar was on the run while six others were in police custody after the incident.
