Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain warned against offensive and indecent comments on social media. He also questioned how educated people can do that job.
Speaking in the state’s appeal hearing against the bail of one of the defendants in the case brought under the Digital Security Act, he said on Sunday: “People in America are lampooned. But don’t write us so ugly. like here. An educated person who writes languages, how can he use these languages? So what is the cost of education? ‘
He added: ‘Remember, the image of the country comes first. I warn you, we will not consider the bail of those who will tarnish the image of the country.
The Chief Justice made the remarks while presiding today over a three-member tribunal of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Debnath told The Daily Star: “Sylhet resident Mohammad Ali has made insulting comments on Facebook on behalf of some prominent people. If Golam Sarwar’s bail is granted, the state will appeal to the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
However, he did not elaborate on what was written on Facebook and on whose behalf it was written.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court ordered Biswajit Debnath not to reveal these matters.
After the hearing, the court dismissed the state’s statement.
Wed October 11, 2020 for health reasons. The High Court granted a bond of one year to Golam Sarwar.
Golam Sarwar’s lawyer, M Asaduzzaman, told The Daily Star: He was accused of making disparaging remarks on behalf of several prominent people, including the Prime Minister. He has been in jail since March 14 of last year.
He further stated: “The Supreme Court has ordered my client to be careful when commenting on social media. I will do it according to the order of the Supreme Court.
He said that there was no legal impediment to his client’s release from Sylhet jail following the order of the supreme court.
